If someone was to ask you today "What's your passion and the reason behind it?”, what would your response be? Would you know the passion but have no idea why you are driven towards that particular mission?
Understanding, truly understanding why we do the things we do is of the utmost importance. We can all have passion and a vision for our life, but without determining our purpose and the why behind it, we are be bound for failure. It might not happen today or tomorrow, but it will happen since our foundation isn't solid.
Our foundation is our purpose-it's what drives us every day to accomplish the goals and dreams we have for ourselves. We need the power of purpose to keep our energy going, our creative juices flowing, and our minds determined to keep pushing through all obstacles in life. It provides clarity. Understanding your why though… that’s even more important!
Think of it this way; your purpose is your vehicle in life, it’s what gets you going, but your WHY is the engine for that vehicle. Without the engine the car is worthless and with it it’s unstoppable!
When you know your purpose and clearly understand your WHY, you hold yourself to a different standard. You wake up every morning determined to kick ass, and even when things go south, you get up and continue to push through because the mission is stronger then the feeling of defeat. It's your WHY that does the pushing for you; it's what makes you stand out in the crowd. Without it, you are simply part of the noise in that same crowd.
1) What makes you light up and come alive when you think about it?
2) What thoughts or ideas just won't leave your brain, even when you don't want to think about it?
3) Where do you show your most strength?
4) What are things you do that inspire or empower others?
5) What are you willing to do for hours without complaining?
6) Where do you always seem to go the extra mile without being asked?
7) What are you ready to do for free if needed?
8) Where are you the happiest?
9) If you could teach something, what would it be?
10) What do you want your legacy to be?
To determine your WHY, I want you to think about all the things you’ve listed above. Now, write down why these things are so important to you. It could be because you want to leave a legacy for your children, or family members. Or maybe your why is because of something you went through and want to help other people from making the same mistakes. There are so many reasons why we choose the passions we do, and I want you to clearly write all of your reasons out.
If there is anything you take from today's post, I want it to be for you to always remember that whenever you start something new, the hype will always motivate you to keep going. After awhile, though, when that hype dies down, and business gets slow, or if you are a writer/blogger and you suddenly get writer's block, it's understanding and remembering your purpose (your WHY) that will always bring you clarity. It will help infuse your passion and ignite your dreams once again for you.
Please, oh, please remember your WHY! It will always ensure you stand out instead of blending in!
I genuinely hope this blog helps you or someone you know. I wish someone had shared this with me when I was first starting on this journey. It would have saved me from so many of my early mistakes. As always, I'd love to hear from you. Do you know your purpose? Do you understand your WHY? Please leave your feedback below in the comments section.
